Dr. Khan’s areas of specialization are Digital Signal Processing, Digital Design and Communication System. He has authored or co-authored more 65 publications in journals and conferences.

Dr. Khan has Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology; Atlanta, GA. Analog Devices funded his Ph.D. on a project for MIT Lincoln Lab, which involved 64 SHARC DSPs based Mesh for parallel processing application. He obtained his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from UET, Lahore

He has 12+ years industrial experience in companies like Scientific Atlanta, Picture Tel, and Cisco Systems. Mostly he worked on multi-DSP-based systems. As head of R&D group at Communications Enabling Technologies, he headed the team that executed a pioneering work of System on Chip (SoC) design. The team designed the world highest density media processor for carrier class voice processing system. The SoC can handle 2000 calls of G.711 or 624 calls of G.729a with line echo cancellation, voice activity detection, and comfort noise generation. SoC has 40 DSPs with embedded silicon RTOS taking care of the scheduling of different voice channels on these DSPs. A system based on this chip is installed in PTCL 17-enquiry exchange in Peshawar, Pakistan. He is one of the five recipients of National Education Award 2001 in the category of "Outstanding Services to Science and Technology".

Celia Shahnaz, SMIEEE, Fellow IEB, received her Ph.D. degree from Concordia University, Canada and is currently a Professor at the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology.

She has published more than 150 international journal/conference papers. She is a recipient of the Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship/Fellowship and Bangladesh Academy of Science Gold Medal for her contribution in Science and Technology. Her research interests include the areas of signal processing for speech analysis and speech enhancement, audio-visual recognition for biometric security, control system, robotics, pattern recognition, machine learning and deep learning for audio, video, biomedical, power signals, multimodal emotion recognition, and humanitarian technology. Recently, her papers have received best paper awards in IEEE BECITHCON 2019, biomedical Engineering tracks at TENCON 2017 and at IEEE WIECON-ECE 2016, in Humanitarian Challenge track at R10 HTC 2017, and the best interactive poster award at ICIVPR 2017. Her paper has been selected for the top ten best paper awards in the Student Paper Contest of the 2018 and 2014 IEEE International Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems (MWSCAS), College Station, Texas, USA and Knoxville, TN, USA, respectively. She was the winner, of the Best Student Paper Award, 2008 IEEE International Conference on Neural Networks and Signal Processing (ICNNSP), Zhenjiang, China. She was selected as one of the finalists of the Student Research Presentation Competition in the 2009 SYTACOM Workshop, Montreal, QC, Canada.

She was the mentor of 1st/2nd prize winning projects in IEEE IAS CMD Contests (Robotics, Humanitarian) in 2017-2019, USA. She was the supervisor of 4th/5th rank winning teams in SPCUP competitions, ICASSP 2020 (Spain)/2015 (Australia) and the 5th rank winning team in the VIP CUP competition, ICIP 2020 (United Arab Emirates). She is the recipient of the 2021 Inspiring Women in Academia Award from Bangladesh brand forum, 2019 R10 Humanitarian Activities Outstanding Volunteer Award, 2016 MGA Leadership Award 2015 WIE Inspiring Member Award, 2013 R10 WIE Professional Volunteer Award.

She has been elected as 2022 IEEE WIE Chair-Elect. She has been appointed as 2021-23 Chair, IEEE SPS Women in Signal Processing, 2021-23 Liaison between IEEE SPS and IEEE WIE. Dr. Syed Ali Abbas Kazmi received the bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology, Taxila, Pakistan, the master’s degree in electrical power engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar, Pakistan, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical power engineering from Sungkyunkwan University, South Korea. He is currently an Assistant Professor with the Electrical Engineering Department, U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Energy (USPCAS-E), National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) since September 2017. Besides that, he has ~13 years of total experience including eight years of academic experience, three years of industrial field experience, and two years of experience in Government sector organization. His research interests include electrical power engineering, voltage stability, power stability studies, distributed generation, smart grids, smart distribution networks, power system optimization, power system planning, power system scheduling, microgrids, multi-microgrids, virtual power plants, smart distribution networks, power stability studies, power quality with FACT devices, wind and photovoltaic based energy systems.
